What it does

Korean toners aren't the astringent product British shoppers picture — there's no alcohol sting and nothing being wiped away. The job is to put the first layer of moisture onto damp skin so everything after it works better. This one is milky rather than watery, which makes it a more substantial step: it uses the same three-lipid CERA-CORE system as the Barrier Cream, delivered in a micro-emulsion that absorbs without stickiness.

That makes it the right first step if your skin is dry — a watery toner evaporates and leaves you no better off, whereas this leaves something behind. At 200ml it's large enough to use generously, which is how these are meant to be used.

How to use

After cleansing, pour a little into your palms and press it into the face and neck. Hands waste less than a cotton pad. Apply while your skin is still damp — that's the whole point, and letting your face dry first throws most of it away. Layer two or three thin applications if your skin is very dry. Follow with serum and cream.
