What it does

Salt scrubs and sugar scrubs do different jobs, and the difference matters more than most people realise. Salt crystals are harder and more angular, so they work properly on the places that actually need it — heels, knees, elbows, the backs of the arms — where a sugar scrub just dissolves and gives up. They also dissolve gradually as you work, so the scrub starts firm and finishes gentle.

What makes this one different from a cheap salt scrub is the base. It's suspended in shea butter rather than a thin oil, so it leaves a film of butter behind as the salt breaks down. In practice that means you often don't need body lotion afterwards, which is part of what you're paying for. Gigartina, a red seaweed, is OSEA's signature ingredient and runs through the whole range.

How to use

Stir well before use — the salt settles and the butter rises, and the top of the jar isn't representative. In the shower, work over damp skin in circles, concentrating on rough areas, then rinse with warm water. Once or twice a week.

Not on freshly shaved skin — salt in fresh razor nicks is genuinely unpleasant. Scrub first and shave afterwards, or leave a day between.

Who it is for

For rough, dry or neglected body skin, and particularly good before applying fake tan, which always goes patchy over dead skin. Avoid on broken, sunburned or irritated skin. Patch-test before first use.
