What it does

Rice bran oil is the interesting part. It's light where most facial oils are heavy, high in vitamin E and naturally occurring antioxidants, and it has a long history in Japanese and Korean skincare — the same tradition that put rice water on the face centuries before anyone called it an ingredient.

The practical difference is texture. This sinks in rather than sitting on top, so it doesn't transfer onto a pillowcase and doesn't leave the greasy film that puts people off oils entirely. Used as the final step it seals in whatever's underneath, which is the whole job of an oil — it doesn't hydrate on its own, it stops what you've already applied from evaporating.

How to use

As the last step of your evening routine, warm two or three drops between your palms and press into the face. Over damp skin, and always last — an oil applied before your cream blocks the cream from getting in. Two or three drops mixed into your moisturiser also works if you find oils intimidating.
