A solid balm that melts to a serum on contact with skin, with blue tansy, cacao butter, passion fruit and squalane. Handmade in England.

What it does

The format is the point. It sits in the jar as a firm balm and turns liquid the moment it meets the warmth of your hands, so you apply it as an oil-serum but store it as a solid — no pump, no spill, and no water in the formula, which means no preservative system doing heavy work. Cacao butter provides the structure and the occlusive layer that stops moisture escaping overnight; squalane and passion fruit seed oil do the lighter work of keeping the skin barrier supplied with lipids. Blue tansy gives it the deep blue-green colour, which is natural rather than added — it comes from chamazulene, formed when the flowers are distilled.

NINI Organics was started by two siblings, Alex and Nicole, after Alex's own experience with severe acne and the harshness of what was on offer to treat it. Everything is made in small batches in England.

How to use

Scoop a small amount into your palm, let your body heat melt it, then press into freshly cleansed skin. Morning or evening. If it softens in warm weather, put it in the fridge for half an hour and it re-solidifies — that's the formula behaving normally, not a fault.

Who it is for

For dry, tight or weather-beaten skin, and as a last step over a serum on cold nights. A useful thing to know first: this contains blue tansy and lavender, both essential oils, and the scent is part of the appeal. If your skin is genuinely reactive rather than just dry, essential oils are the most common trigger in natural skincare, so patch-test on your inner arm and wait 24 hours before putting it on your face.
